In light of the new administration coming up on inauguration day, and their opposition to legal marijuana, a cannabis coalition will be handing out 4,200 joints for free as the group protests on the National Mall on January 20th.
DCMJ.org founder, Adam Eidinger said, “If somebody wants to do it they are risking arrest but it’s a protest and you know what, the National Mall is a place for protest.”
It is legal to possess less than two ounces of weed in D.C. and to give it as a gift. It is illegal to sell it and to possess it on federal land including the Mall or any National Park Service land.
So what’s the purpose of the smoke-out? Smokers are worried that Obama’s stance on allowing states to regulate and legalize cannabis will be overturned by the attorney general Jeff Sessions. He has been publicly opposed to marijuana use.
A post from the DCMJ’s website says, “We legalized cannabis in Washington, D.C., and we are not going to let anyone take that away from us. This is an outreach opportunity to show President Trump’s supporters we are the marijuana majority! Join us for a smokin’ fun time!”
Participants will meet on the west side of Dupont Circle from 8-10 a.m. and must be 21 years old. They plan to light up four minutes and 20 seconds into Trump’s speech.
