Obama’s Chief of Staff Says Big Name Senate Culprit to Blame for Russia Election Tampering… Not Obama

For one and a half years, Donald Trump ignored almost everyone, including American intelligence officials, and spread the fiction that Russia didn’t attack the American elections in 2016. However, last week, the president changed his position – by blaming his predecessor.

“Obama did nothing about Russia!” Trump lied on Twitter, “Why didn’t he do something?” Trump deceitfully asked in a different tweet regarding the same subject.

White House Press Secretary and compulsive liar Sarah Huckabee Sanders has said the same thing. Asked last week to speak on the Trump administration’s reluctance to get ready for another round of Russian attacks on our democracy in 2018, Sanders was eager to change the topic: “Let’s not forget that this happened under Obama…. If you want to blame somebody on past problems, then you need to look at the Obama administration.”

The problem is that whenever Trump World shifts its attention to officials’ reaction to Russian intervention in 2016, we are reminded that it was not Barack Obama who was incompetent and negligent – it was the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Former White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough on Sunday said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell “watered down” a warning about Russia’s attempts to interfere in the 2016 election and defended the Obama administration’s response to foreign meddling in the campaign.

The language in a September 2016 letter from congressional leaders to state election officials was drastically softened at McConnell’s urging, McDonough said in an exclusive interview Sunday on NBC’s “Meet The Press.”

As the Washington Post wrote, when national security officials informed congressional leaders of Russia’s interference, it was Turtle McConnell who didn’t want to tell the public and questioned the truth of the intelligence.

Brian Beutler said it this way: “McConnell ran interference for Trump during the campaign to stop Obama from warning the country about things Trump was lying publicly about.”

When Donald Trump asks about the Russia attack, “Why didn’t he do something?”, our stupid lying president is addressing the question to the wrong “he.”
