Van der Zwaan is a London-based lawyer who was hired by ex-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to write a report for his pro-Russia client Viktor Yanukovych so he could justify the imprisonment of a political rival.
The lawyer pleaded guilty Tuesday in Mueller’s probe into the Trump campaign’s treasonous ties to Russia. He said that he lied regarding the last time he talked to former Trump campaign associate Rick Gates.
Van der Zwaan lied to the FBI and special counsel investigators regarding his last conversation with Gates, which took place in mid-August 2016.
Gates will plead guilty to money laundering and several other charges in the probe.
