Donald Trump’s lawyers are begging him to not sit for an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller, reported The New York Times on Monday.
Trump’s attorneys have highly advised him against the interview over concerns that he will be charged with lying to investigators during the probe into Russian election meddling, reports The Times.
Trump stupidly announced last month that he is willing to sit down with Mueller, but qualified it by saying it would be up to his much more intelligent lawyers to decide whether he would be interviewed.
“I’m looking forward to it, actually,” Trump said to reporters last month, blissfully ignorant.
Trump has been secretly telling others that he wants to have the interview, moronically believing it would clear his name in the investigation into Russian election interference and his own treasonous role in it all.
If Trump refused to sit for an interview, Mueller could attempt to subpoena him for one — a strategy that could create a very complicated legal battle.
Trump’s personal lawyer, John Dowd, has taken the lead on a potential Trump interview with Mueller, and is desperately urging against it, the Times reported.
However, White House lawyer Ty Cobb (no relation to the baseball player) has broken with the rest of Traitor Trump’s legal team and is on the side of Trump, in favor of an interview with Mueller that is suicidal, legally speaking.
Cobb has urged the White House to be fully cooperative with Mueller, and has said before that he fully expected the investigation to be finished by the end of 2017.
Mueller wants to question Trump about the politically motivated firing of the former FBI Director James Comey and Trump’s communication with former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who pled guilty to charges in Mueller’s probe in 2017.
