“Are you on my team?”
Donald Trump has twice tried to determine whether top justice officials in the country could be more loyal to him than to the Constitution that they have sworn to uphold — and now there’s a third.
In a December meeting with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Trump interrogated Rosenstein about the way special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation was going, and, according to CNN, “wanted to know whether Rosenstein was ‘on my team.’”
Rosenstein replaced Attorney General Jeff Sessions as leader of the Russia investigation after Sessions allegedly recused himself from it, and any order to fire Robert Mueller would then fall to Rosenstein.
This is the third report of Trump trying to get the loyalty of high-ranking officials of an independent agency that is investigating Traitor Trump for collusion and obstruction of justice.
Former FBI Director James Comey testified in front of Congress that Trump wanted a loyalty pledge while he was serving in that post, a fact that was confirmed in separate congressional testimony by the FBI’s deputy director, Andrew McCabe.
Soon after firing Comey, Trump also tried to determine whether McCabe might be more loyal to him by asking who he voted for in the 2016 presidential election.
This latest disturbing news adds to a pattern of Trump seemingly thinking — wrongly — that those enforcing our justice system should put a criminal’s interests before the law. Those who wouldn’t do so have publicly faced his wrath, with Trump and the Republican Party conducting smear campaigns against them to undermine and discredit them and their discoveries.
Many Democrats have warned for almost a year that Trump’s tries to derail investigations must trigger impeachment proceedings. Indeed, just last week, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said news about Trump’s attempt to fire Mueller means a “constitutional crisis is looming.”
This latest development is more evidence of how reckless and dangerous Traitor Trump is and how deep his disrespect is for the rule of law. It is time to protect this great nation and its Constitution and impeach Trump.
