In practical terms, the role of the White House Press Secretary is to somehow make the President’s scandals and controversies disappear. That’s impossible to do when Donald Trump is our illegitimate President, and pretty much every single thing he says and does is a scandal. Sean Spicer burned out quickly. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has lasted much longer. But she blew it for Traitor Trump today in spectacular fashion, and at the worst possible time.
Her job is to trick the media into thinking that Trump’s Russia scandal, and now the obstruction scandal, aren’t that important and perhaps the media should discuss something else that day. Trump finally nudged FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe into retirement today. Doing so was obstructing justice, as Trump was under the (mistaken) impression that McCabe is in charge of the Russia probe, and that McCabe is after him.
Huckabee Sanders had the difficult task today of trying to mislead the media by claiming that Trump’s ouster of McCabe was not about the Russia investigation, and so not obstruction of justice. She could have talked about real or imaginary mistakes that McCabe made on the job years ago. She could have claimed he farted too much. Anything, whether it was true or not, so long as it muddied the waters to hide the Russia probe from view. Instead, she screwed it up and did the opposite.
Here is what Sarah Huckabee Sanders had to say on Monday about Donald Trump getting rid of Andrew McCabe: “The only thing the president applied pressure to is to get it resolved, so you guys and everyone else can focus on the things Americans actually care about: making sure everybody gets the Russia fever out of their system once and for all.” She flat out admitted that Trump pushed McCabe out of his job in the hope of making the Russia scandal disappear. She publicly confessed that Trump committed felony obstruction of justice. Even worse, she confessed that she’s involved in his conspiracy to obstruct justice. Oops.
