On Tuesday, ex-Donald Trump campaign adviser Rick Gates indicated that he was negotiating a plea deal to snitch on his associate Paul Manafort, which would force Manafort to flip on Trump. This development will prove crucial, because even while Special Counsel Robert Mueller aggressively goes after Trump for obstruction of justice, Gates and Manafort can prove that Trump is guilty on Russian money laundering too. In a bizarre development, Gates’s spokesman was murdered in Afghanistan on Wednesday.
Glenn Selig was handling public relations for Rick Gates, who had been arrested in late 2017 on charges such as money laundering and conspiracy against the United States. Selig died while the Afghanistan hotel he was staying in was being attacked by the Taliban, says a new Politico report. In terms of getting a plea deal, this doesn’t change anything; if Gates’ attorney had died, it would have been a different matter. However, this changes one thing about the Trump-Russia treason scandal.
Now that Traitor Trump is on the ropes and Mueller is closing in, he and his remaining allies are counting on increasingly insane phony conspiracy theories as a pathetic distraction. They’re now desperate enough to lie about everything from missing texts between lovers, to Hillary Clinton supposedly having bought off the FBI. It’s all stupid nonsense, of course, but it’s all the Republicans left.
Now that Rick Gates is getting ready to cut a plea deal that would devastate for Donald Trump, his spokesman got killed by terrorists. Trump’s allies will try to spin this as another conspiracy theory. Maybe Hillary Clinton is now, in their minds, leading the Taliban. Trump and his people are now willing to grab onto any fictional conspiracy theory they can make up. They will try to use the death of Selig as well.
