The trouble with relying on gullible morons to do your corrupt bidding is that they will rarely do a job. Donald Trump is finding that out the hard way, after hiring bumbling buffoon Devin Nunes to do interference for him in the Trump-Russia treason investigation. Nunes has written a memo aimed at exonerating Trump, and it turns out, the memo is such an irredeemable disaster that it’s backed Trump into a no-win corner.
Nunes has only shown his awful memo to a few people, and the response was predictably negative. Even Republicans on his own House Intel Committee are refusing to vouch for his stupid claims. Adam Schiff, the leading Democrat on the committee, has read the memo and has dismissed it as nonsensical rumors. Schiff went on MSNBC on Wednesday night and exposed that Nunes hadn’t even read any of the source material that his memo criticizes.
More tellingly, Nunes is now unwilling to show his memo to anyone else who asks about it. The FBI has requested a copy so that it can check it for classified information before it’s publicly released; Nunes refused. Richard Burr, who is the Republican Chair of the Senate Intel Committee, asked for a copy; Nunes has also surprisingly refused that request as well. Now, an on-air report from MSNBC host Chris Hayes says that even Trump’s own Department of Justice is asking Nunes not to publish the memo, because it’s so terrible.
The problem for Devin Nunes is that because he and some of his fellow idiots in Congress have publicly bragged about the memo and claimed that it exposes the Trump-Russia treason investigation as a partisan farce, Trump’s base is demanding that the memo be published. Those demands won’t disappear any time soon. But if Nunes publishes the idiotic memo, it’ll only make Trump look even more guilty. Nunes has sabotaged Trump by trying to help him.
