Hillary Clinton ripped into President Trump on LGBT rights on Thursday night, proposing that Americans will need to “make it clear where our country stands” in the coming 2018 midterm elections.
“I think we have to face the fact that we may not ever be able to count on this administration to lead on LGBT issues,” Clinton said at a speech at The Center, an LGBT support group, where she received a deserving award.
In her speech , she cautioned that certain protections and rights advanced under the previous Obama presidency are already at risk of being reversed under Trump’s regime.
“We’ve learned something important. That the progress that we fought for, that many of you were on the front lines of and that we celebrated and maybe even taken for granted, may not be as secure as we once expected.”
She battered the Trump administration’s directive to reverse federal rules that instruct schools and institutions to grant access to transgender students to use the restroom of their choice, saying her “heart broke” because of the directive, and encouraged her supporters to look forward to the 2018 midterm elections to “make it clear where our country stands” in regard to LGBT and all rights.
