It was difficult to get past the horrible Trump-sized gaffe at the White House Easter Egg Roll when Donald botched the National Anthem and did not put his hand on his heart. Even his foreign born-and-raised wife knew to do that.
But after she nudged his hand, he remembered what to do…
However, upon closer examination of the day’s events, something else was noticed-and it is more disturbing.
The children in attendance at the White House Easter Egg Roll were overwhelmingly white.
Why? It seems that the Trumps decided to avoid inviting the local DC children from public schools. Traditionally, the invitation is extended to those children.
Assistant Superintendent for the D.C. Arlington Public School District, Linda Erdos, told The New York Daily News in an interview that:
“We never received any information for an invitation or anything this year, which we had in previous years. We realized about a week ago that nothing had come through this year, and we just assumed that it was a different administration doing things differently this year.”
Maquita Alexander, the Washington Union Charter School Principal, had a similar story. She hadn’t heard of any area schools who had received invitations this year.
“I haven’t heard of anybody going this year, we certainly haven’t gotten an invitation at this school.”
Of course, Press Secretary Sean Spicer claimed that tickets had been distributed to “schools, children’s’ hospitals and military and law enforcement families.” However, anyone can look at the pictures and compare them to last year’s Egg Roll. It’s clear that the invitations were not sent to local DC schools, who have a predominantly black student population.
Let’s add this to the list of openly discriminatory behavior from this administration: Associations with white supremacists, travel bans against Muslims, deporting Hispanics, and now-excluding black children from the Easter Egg Roll.
Shame on them.
