Melania Trump just took a separate plane to be with her husband Donald Trump for the Easter weekend at their resort of Mar-a-Lago, contributing to the already bulging Trump taxpayer-paid travel tab.
Melania got to West Palm Beach Thursday on a government paid for aircraft, which was the military version of a Boeing 757, at approximately 6:30pm, just several minutes prior to her husband arriving on Air Force One.
Since Melania lives at Trump Tower in New York City with their son Barron, she flew directly from there. The cost per hour for operating that particular plane is $15,846, which means that the aggregate trip cost was at around $100,000.
According to recent reports by the New York Times, the president has already spent 22 days at Mar-A-Lago in the short span of his presidency, which logged its 85th day today. He has spent roughly 27 days, or almost a third of his time while president, visiting his resort.
Sean Spicer, White House Press Secretary, has vehemently defended the president’s jaunts to Florida, saying Mar-A-Lago “is where he goes to see his family. He brings people down there. This is part of being president.”
“I can’t think of anything like this that we’ve seen at anytime in the modern era,” George Washington Law School professor Steve Schooner told NBC News for an article regarding the president’s travel.
“It’s just another example of his consistent efforts to exploit public office for private gain. He’s using his official office and the fact that people have to travel with him, meet him, and follow him to promote his commercial enterprise, in this case his privately owned club.”
It’s certain that if Obama and Michelle had done this, Conservatives would have burned the White House down.
