Former FBI Director James Comey gave the maximum legal amount to the Democratic candidate Jennifer Wexton while she campaigns to take the seat of vulnerable Virginia Representative Barbara Comstock (R) in November.
James Comey donated $2,700 to Jennifer Wexton’s campaign in September, Federal Election Commission filings show.
Comey, the former FBI head has always donated to Republican campaigns, like Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign as well as John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.
However, James Comey, who was unfairly fired by President Trump back in May 2017, revealed earlier in 2018 that because of the president, he is leaving the Republican party.
“The Republican Party has left me and many others,” Comey said. “I just think they’ve lost their way and I can’t be associated with it.”
Comey also added that he believes the Republican Party now works for “entirely Donald Trump’s values.”
“It doesn’t reflect values at all. It’s transactional, it’s ego-driven, it’s in service to his ego,” James Comey said.
The former Republican has called on Americans to do the right thing and vote for Democrats during the midterm elections, explaining: “Policy differences don’t matter right now. History has its eyes on us.”
A new Monmouth University poll released earlier in the month shows Wexton beating Comstock by 6% in Virginia’s hotly-contested 10th Congressional District.
