Donald Trump briefly talked with reporters before getting on Air Force One on Thursday, and the president mentioned traveling to Texas, and said “we’re going to have some fun today.”
That was a strange choice of words: President Trump was scheduled to talk with family members who lost their loved ones at the mass shooting at a Houston high school. So, “fun” wasn’t the point.
An AP report mentioned that the president’s visit with grieving family members could’ve gone much better.
Rhonda Hart, whose 14-year-old daughter, Kimberly Vaughan, was killed at the school, told The Associated Press that Trump repeatedly used the word ‘wacky’ to describe the shooter and the trench coat he wore. She said she told Trump, “Maybe if everyone had access to mental health care, we wouldn’t be in the situation.”
Hart, an Army veteran, said she also suggested employing veterans as sentinels in schools. She said Trump responded, “And arm them?” She replied, “No,” but said Trump “kept mentioning” arming classroom teachers. “It was like talking to a toddler,” Hart said.
It’s unfortunate that the stupid president struggled to make a grieving mother feel better during an incredibly hard time, but if her response to meeting Trump sounds very familiar, it’s because we have seen many reports like it.
Following the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, for example, Trump talked Samantha Fuentes on the phone, a student who had been shot and had a piece of shrapnel stuck behind her right eyeball. “Talking to the president, I’ve never been so unimpressed by a person in my life,” she complained after the phone call. “He didn’t make me feel better in the slightest.”
Near the same time, Donald Trump hosted a White House event on school shootings, where the ignorant president clutched talking points which had been written for him, because he’s too dumb to be left to his own devices. One of them said, “I hear you” – suggesting that he literally needed to be reminded to let people know he was listening, something which would be instinctual for intelligent humans.
Before that, Doanld Trump talked to Myeshia Johnson, who is Sgt. La David T. Johnson’s widow, following his death in Niger. When that conversation went poorly, the very immature president fought with the grieving widow on Twitter.
While he was a candidate, the future evil president, talking about himself in the third person, said that empathy is “one of the strongest things about Trump.”
There is a lot of evidence that suggests otherwise.
