Shocked Hannity Just Got Beaten Badly in March by ‘Most-Watched’ Cable News Host

With an average audience of 3.058 million people, The Rachel Maddow Show became the highest-rated show in cable news in March. Coming in second place, FNC’s Hannity had 3.000 million viewers. Maddow also had the most viewers in the 25-54 age group, which is the demographic advertisers value the most. She concluded March with an average viewership of 671,000, beating Hannity’s 616,000 and CNN’s 382,000.

MSNBC, receiving a significant boost in ratings, was the only cable news network to grow in the first quarter of 2018 compared to that of 2017, going up by 30%. Meanwhile, CNN’s and Fox News’s ratings dropped.

In March, MSNBC broke network records with their programming in prime time, daytime and total day. The prime time viewership averaged at 2.398 million, making them number two among all of cable TV networks. Fox News did maintain its title as top-rated network in cable news, but MSNBC’s prime lineup improved by 8% from the last year, and Fox went down 18 percent while CNN experienced a 16 percent decrease.

These results in ratings from March may be a sign that Fox News’ unchallenged position as the dominant voice in cable news might face one of the most difficult challenges it ever has.
