Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will be facing a formidable challenger if he chooses to run in 2020 for re-election: beloved sports radio host Matt Jones.
Yes…Matt Jones wants to make Senate Majority Leader and terrible turtle Mitch McConnell lose his job.
A profile in Politico Magazine says Jones is, “an outspoken champion of worker’s rights, a pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-wrestling NASCAR enthusiast,” and he has high name recognition in Kentucky He has traded attacks with McConnell on his popular radio show, not just on basketball allegiances, but on his political stances. He’s well known for calling out Turtle McConnell as “a master at helping wealthy business interests get wealthier,” an unapologetic liar, and a tool of the wealthy.
Jones’ criticisms of Turtle McConnell will likely vibe well with Kentuckians.
Polls show that even Republicans hate McConnell. A survey conducted last August discovered that Republicans disapprove of McConnell 40 to 32. Among Kentucky voters, the turtle’s approval rating is only 18 percent — the worst for any senator in America.
Part of the problem is that, while McConnell is great at blocking Democrats from helping the American people, he is useless at achieving his evil legislative goals. He faces anger from Democrats for stealing a Supreme Court judge and stopping campaign finance laws, and rage from the GOP for his inability to ruin America by repealing Obamacare. So the evil turtle has no friends.
Another problem is that Kentucky voters love to elect outsiders. Trump was helped there by his many empty promises to “drain the swamp.” In contrast, McConnell is hurt by the reality, which is obvious to Democrats and Republicans both, that he is the swamp.
The reality is that, for all his great power and wealth, McConnell might end up being the most vulnerable senator in 2020. Jones’ threat to enter the race is more evidence of the forces gathering against him. Pretty soon this turtle will become turtle soup.
